Not actually a town at all but a zip code (06355). Mystic is made of two towns, Stonington and the eastern side of the Mystic River and Groton on the west bank. Downtown is picturesque with it famous bascule bridge boutique shops and restaurants. Many marinas can be found along the river as well.
One of the most famous attractions is Mystic Seaport. A truly wonderful maritime museum which is open nearly all year. Please visit their site.
Another, equally famous, attraction is the Mystic Marinelife Aquarium.

There are numerous marinas and charter boats (cruising and fishing) for hire along the Mystic River. The restaurant Abbott's Lobster In The Rough (860-536-7719) even has dockage available for those too hungry to make it into town. Speaking of food, Mystic Pizza (of the movie fame) is also here.
