Dardenne Lightning

Symbols:  Recent +CG strokes are shown as a lightning bolt deflected to the right,  -CG strokes are deflected to the left, +IC strokes are a triangle pointing right and -IC strokes point left.  Most recent strokes are red.  Over time, stroke symbols decrease in size and change from red (1 min,), to orange (5 min), to yellow (10 min), to green (15 min), to blue (30 min), and then to purple (60 min).  Lightning directly over the antenna can cause strokes to be plotted in a circle around the epicenter.

What am I looking at?  You are looking at one a several maps showing lightning strokes detected by a Boltek antenna mounted in the attic of my house in Dardenne Prairie, MO.  Lightning/2000 3.0 now gives the ability to plot cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning strokes. A key is provided above.  Range rings show the approximate distance of the strokes to the antenna.  The more strokes, the more accurate the plot.

Why is the detector off?   The detector is typically turned off if there is no activity within a 400 mile radius.
