Block Island Boat Basin

The second marina on the right (west) as you reach the southern end of the New Harbor channel, the Block Island Boat Basin consists of a series of concrete floating docks. This marina is seasonal since the docks are hauled before winter. There is also a single wooden pier where the Montauk Viking Ferry docks and ice and fuel can be bought.

The Boat Basin also has a small general store stock with groceries and marina supplies as well as Block Island novelties and gifts. There are also a weather gauges which are useful to the mariner on the outside of the general store which are helpful in judging the current weather. The office of the Harbormaster is also located at the Boat Basin.

The Oar restaurant (1 or 2) is also located at the Boat Basin. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinners both indoors and outside. A must place to visit if only for a drink at the bar and at look at the interior decor.

Reservations (401-466-2631) are strongly suggested for busy weekends. Bicycles and vehicles can also be rented on the premises.

Fire

The Boat Basin suffered a terrible loss the summer of 1998. A fire completely destroyed the marine/grocery store.  But all is repaired and operating as normal now.
